Definition

An exchange-traded contract with standardised specifications defining the underlying asset, quantity and date.

What you need to know

Before trading an exchange-listed contract, check its multiplier, minimum price increment, contract month and settlement terms. For example, CME’s E-mini and Micro E-mini contracts differ in size despite their similar names. An IG International futures-based CFD references the price of an exchange-traded contract but is not that contract.
