A beginner’s guide

Eightcap trading platforms: choosing MT4, MT5 or TradingView

Choose a compatible account and platform, connect TradingView, check the price source, set alerts and practise orders in a demo. Separating the chart from execution also helps you understand the costs.

Choose a platform around how you work

Eightcap offers MT4, MT5 and TradingView, and now also lists TradeLocker. This guide focuses on the first three: the compatible account, the price source and the path from a chart to an order. In each case, the Eightcap account provides the trading service and the platform supplies the workspace. A CFD does not confer ownership of the asset shown on the chart.

WorkspaceA useful starting pointCheck before connecting
MT4An existing MQL4 indicator or EATool version and account instruments
MT5MQL5 work and a built-in economic calendarCode compatibility and an MT5 account
TradingViewChart analysis and order managementCompatible account and symbol source

An existing tool’s compatibility may decide the choice. If you have no existing setup, first decide whether you need manual analysis, alerts or a program that executes orders. Those are different requirements even when they appear beside the same chart.

Connect an account configured for TradingView

Eightcap’s instructions ask you to select TradingView as the trading account’s platform. Your TradingView user account is separate from the broker account. Do not assume that an MT4 or MT5 login connects the same balance through TradingView.

The documented process is to sign in to TradingView, open a chart and select Eightcap in the Trading Panel. Enter the relevant trading-account credentials, then check which account is selected. Eightcap states that supported live and demo accounts can connect. For the first practice session, use a supported demo and confirm that it is identified as a demo before entering an order.

A paid TradingView plan is not required for the connection. Eightcap manages funding and withdrawals, so changing charts or TradingView plans does not transfer funds between trading accounts.

Match the chart symbol to the connected broker

TradingView can display the same asset name from multiple data providers. Seeing EURUSD on one chart does not establish that your currently connected account can trade that symbol. Open symbol search, filter for the broker and check whether the instrument is tradable. A Non-tradable symbol message is a reason to check the symbol against the connected service first.

Order-ticket quotes come from the broker, while the chart may use another data feed. Check the bid and ask in the ticket rather than relying only on the latest candle. A TradingView exchange-data subscription does not automatically change the broker’s feed or execution price. This is a general distinction between data sources, not a claim that every Eightcap account requires an additional exchange-data subscription.

An alert notifies you; an order goes to the account

TradingView lets you create alerts on prices, indicators and other supported conditions. Select the condition, frequency and expiry, then choose how to receive the notification. Phone notifications require the app and the relevant notification settings. When an alert fires, check what happened and on which symbol before deciding whether to submit an order.

A price notification is not a buy or sell order in your Eightcap account. A Pine Script strategy tested against historical data does not automatically execute live trades either: TradingView says native automated strategy trading through a brokerage account is not yet available.

After changing indicator parameters, recreate the relevant alert. TradingView explains that an existing alert continues to use the settings captured when it was created.

On MT4 and MT5, check tool compatibility first

MT4 and MT5 support indicators and Expert Advisors, or EAs. MT5 also has a built-in economic calendar. The MetaTrader name does not mean that a file will work in both versions: MQL4 and MQL5 differ, and moving a program may require adaptation. Choose the account version around the tools you actually plan to run.

For the desktop platform, Eightcap describes installing an indicator or EA through File and Open Data Folder, using the relevant MQL4 or MQL5 directory and restarting the platform. Start in a demo and inspect the tool’s behavior before allowing it to manage orders. Automation still requires risk management.

If a symbol is missing, check Market Watch and Show All. The symbol’s specification provides swap and contract details, which are more useful than relying on the instrument name alone.

Practise one order and confirm its status

In a supported demo account, start with one instrument. Check the contract size, trade quantity, bid and ask. For forex, Eightcap states that a standard lot is 100,000 units of the base currency and 0.01 lot is 1,000 units. That measures exposure, not necessarily the cash required as margin. For another CFD, read its own contract size.

Distinguish a market order from a pending Limit or Stop order. After submission, confirm whether you have an open position or a pending order; check changes and cancellations in the order list as well. Review the account history during practice rather than relying only on a chart marker. A stop-loss can help manage risk, but it does not guarantee an execution price.

Separate platform costs from trading costs

A free TradingView plan can be enough to connect Eightcap. A paid plan adds chart, indicator and layout features but does not remove broker commission, spreads or financing. Real-time exchange data can also be separate from the chart plan. Decide whether those extras serve your workflow before choosing a subscription.

Eightcap’s Standard and Raw accounts use different pricing structures. Its international table lists USD 3.50 per side per standard lot for a USD Raw account, while share CFDs are an exception to the general commission-free Standard description. The chart does not tell you the applicable rate, and an international table should not be applied to another entity’s account without checking its terms. Overnight financing, payment-provider charges and inactivity provisions can also affect the total cost.

Complete the workflow check before moving to live funds

Choose one workspace for the practice session rather than switching among three during the same check. Make sure you can find a suitable symbol, read its contract specification, configure an alert, submit an order and locate its status in the account history. Resolve unexpected MQL-tool or alert behavior in the demo before using a live account.

A demo teaches the interface and sequence of actions. It does not prove profitability or promise identical live-market execution. Before funding an account, read the agreement of the entity offering it and its margin requirements. Leveraged trading can consume all the trading funds. If the platform choice is settled and the remaining decision is the broker, continue to the FP Markets vs Eightcap comparison.
